Ambulance  &  Fire Department

     The Town of Lumberland contracts with the Volunteer Lumberland Fire Department, Inc. for fire and ambulance protection.  This group of dedicated people can be reached through their emergency Number 911 There non-emergency number is (845) 856-2041.  It is important in an emergency to give exact addresses to the dispatch, so they can find you quickly.  Street Addresses can be obtained by calling the 911 Information Office at (845) 794-3000 ext. 3726.  Then contact the the Town of Lumberland Assessor's Office to verify the address is recorded with the town.  E-911 is in effect and accurate street addresses are important.  Please check that your street address is 911 compatible and prominently posted.

Constable - Police Department

     The Town of Lumberland Constabulary is the law enforcement agency whose duty is to protect and serve the people of the Town of Lumberland.  They are empowered to enforce all the laws of the State of New York, and the Town of Lumberland.  These laws include, but are not limited to: New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, Penal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Environmental Conservation Law, Marine and Recreation Law, ABC Law, Agriculture and Markets Law, and all the laws of the Town of Lumberland.  When the Constables are not on regularly scheduled patrol they are on call for emergencies.  Constabulary equipment includes a standard police issue patrol car and two multipurpose four-wheel drive utility vehicles.  Chief Administrative Constable for the Town of Lumberland is James Thompson.

Trash

     In order to dispose your garbage and refuse, Sullivan County has located a transfer station in the Town of Highland, on CR 55.  Currently the days of operation are as follows.

     Recycling is recommended, as the cost to dispose of properly sorted recyclables is free.

Library

Sunshine Hall Free Library - Opened to all residents of the Town of Lumberland. The Friends of Sunshine Hall Free Library Inc. - An organization of persons interested in books and libraries, to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs; to stimulate gifts of books, magazines, and desirable collections; to enrich the cultural advantages available to the citizens of the community; to secure financial aid; to acquire books and materials which are beyond the command of the ordinary library budget; to encourage gifts for the library; to develop programs for children and adults of all ages; and to inform the membership and public on organization affairs and library events.  The Sunshine Library is located on Proctor Road in Eldred, next to the Eldred Post Office.
