Assessment Review

The Tentative Assessment Roll will be available May 1st.  Formal grievances may be filed up until Grievance Day, which is the 4th Tuesday of May. Grievance Information and Packets will be available in May, if needed, from the Assessor's office.

Anyone wishing to have their assessment reviewed, prior to the tentative assessment roll, may contact the Assessor at any time.

The Board of Assessment Review is a quasi-judicial five-member board, with appointments made for staggered five-year terms.

The board is trained by the New York State Office of Real Property Taxes and is responsible for holding a public hearing once a year on Grievance Day to hear complaints and requests for reduction of assessments on individual property owners’ parcels of land. It is the duty of this board to render a decision following the presentation of the individual requesting it. The board has the authority, if the claim is justifiable, to reduce the assessment on the parcel of land.
